Starting next month, NTT DoCoMo subscribers in Japan will be able to get their hands on the 3G Prada handset from LG. In its previous (non-3G) format, it had been made available pretty much everywhere but Japan. So why the wait? Chang Ma, vice president of marketing strategy for LG said the country has “one of the most sophisticated markets in the world” and that they wanted to introduce “a version more suitable for meeting the high demand of Japanese consumers.” In reality, Japan has a proprietary 2G standard. This is the same reasons the iPhone hasn’t been released there yet.
The all touch phone has some definite class to it. With tactile feedback on the screen, a 2-megapixel camera, and HSDPA, which allows for 7.2M bps download speeds. It’s obviously not geared for mass consumption with a price tag of around $800 US dollars. Still, it’s sleek and sexy - two of our favorite features in a device.
Both LG and NTT DoCoMo are founding members of the Open Handset Alliance.
