HTC Begins Push in United States

Written by AndroidGuys • Apr 22nd, 2008 • Category: Hardware News, Recent News

It’s hard to believe that High Tech Computers (HTC) hasn’t done any major advertising campaigns here in the US.  They’ve been able to sell a ton of devices without too many people knowing who they really are.  Ask most people who makes the T-Mobile Shadow or Wing and you’ll usually get back two answers - either “T-Mobile, silly” or “beats me.”  All that should be changing now as HTC has started their marketing stateside with online videos through YouTube.   Also part of the new effort will be print, television, and outdoor advertising.

Is this HTC’s way of recognizing that Americans are ready to think about their next handset being a smart phone?  Is it part of a new initiative to get people warmed up to another major player?  Is it (hopefully) part of a large scale plan to ready us for Android?  Although we would love to see it be part of the Android game plan, it’s probably more a combination of the first two.

  1. I think HTC ’s decision not to advertise in the US up until now had more to do with money than anything else. They realized the market for smart phones in the US was soft, so why spend the money on advertising. Instead they left it up to the carriers to promote their products. At any rate its good to see them taking a more proactive role in promoting their own products.

  2. Good to see smartphones stepping up to the table, HTC has made some great phones over the years.
Man if it werent for them WM would probably be just another Mobile OS. I hope they can work their magic on Android aswell

My first Android phone will surely be an HTC….with qwerty keyboard

  3. Here in Canada the HTC phones from Rogers and Telus are branded as HTC, rather than with the name of the carrier. I haven’t really seen any HTC-specific marketing up here, but it is a name that people see as they’re browsing the handset options.
