SlideME Puts Android Users in Touch with Applications and Developers
Written by AndroidGuys • Apr 21st, 2008 • Category: Developer News, Software News, Top StoryAndroid is poised to bring developers and users together in a way not seen before in the cellular industry. With so many individuals and small teams writing applications, it would be convenient if there was one central location to browse through everything available. Apple has the App Store for iPhone and iPod touch devices while most other operating systems have Handango InHand. So what will happen for Android handsets?
Enter SlideME.
Let’s say for instance you have downloaded some shareware that just blows your socks off. Now you’re feeling compelled to give back a little something to the guy or team who created your new favorite program. Maybe you just wanna drop a line and say thanks, maybe you want to toss $5 his way. SlideMe makes that possible with their Application Manager (SAM). Beyond your standard fare of rating applications or reading reviews, you can also contact the developer of the program and/or tip them. Another feature we like is the ability to search through SAM to find out what other applications a developer has worked on.
Here’s another interesting scenario; Imagine you are an angel investor or venture capitalist looking to fund the next big thing. Using SAM, you can reach out to developers and hire that key member to your team. Sort by city, country, or availability and find that 1337 HAX0R you’ve been missing. Future versions of SAM are going to allow for users to submit an application for developers to “bid” on them. Social networking is fast becoming one of the most popular reasons to use the internet and phones will be no different. SlideMe ties everything up in a nice little package for you and your Android phones, putting users in touch with developers like never before.
With no official store for Android applications, we imagine SlideMe and SAM becoming the first place someone goes to look for the latest and most popular games and productivity tools. It also looks to be a great spot for developers to get in touch with each other and share ideas. We can’t wait to get an Android phone in our hands and load SAM onto it!
