Google’s Android Developers Challenge Draws 1,788

It looks as though Google’s Android development community is off to great start as there were 1,788 entries in the developer’s challenge. You can read a small article here outlining the contest on Computer World. We would say this is a fairly significant number given that this is a brand new platform that no one really knows how it will be received by the public. Sure, the allure of some cash was a huge draw, but the fact that so many entries were tabulated goes a long way towards validating the platform as a viable option. As for the contest, the final results will be known on July 21st.

If you submitted an application to the Android Developers Challenge, you’ll be happy to know that your odds of picking up a share of the $10 million in booty now stand at roughly 1 in 38.

The Official Android Blog has provided us with an update on the first round of entries from the Developer Challenge. At one point, Google was receiving over 170 entries per hour. Applications submitted ranged from utilities, games, productivity software to developer tools and social-networking.

It’s time for the 100+ judges to review each application now as we wait until May to hear which fifty finalists will receive $25,000 for their efforts. So who makes up this panel of judges anyways? The biggest chunk of them comes from members of the Open Handset Alliance with others being industry experts who are volunteering their time.
