NTT Communications to Test Mobile Fragrance Communication
Written by AndroidGuys • Apr 8th, 2008 • Category: Carrier News, Recent NewsYeah, that’s right. Smellular phones. Japanese telecom NTT Communications is set to trial a new service where audiovisual content is matched with specific smells emitted from a device paired with a mobile phone.
In the trial, 20 participants will get fragrance emitters that come loaded with the basic ingredients for making a range of smells. The recipes for those smells reach the phones from the internet and are then turned into infrared instructions to be beamed from the handset to the glorified air freshener.
The users will be able to download fragrance playlists from NTT DoCoMo’s “i-mode” mobile Web site. NTT DoCoMo is a founding member of the Open Handset Alliance, yet somehow we don’t picture this being a standardized feature for a while.
That’s okay though. We are one step closer to the day where your buddy is not just making you hear him fart over the phone, but actually smell it. 14 year old boys rejoice!
