Have Samsung and Sprint Created an iPhone Killer?

Anytime a company comes out with a product known as a “X” killer, chances are pretty good that they will fail at dethroning whoever it is on top. Think about it for a second - Has anyone ever succeeded in making an iPod killer or a Kindle killer?
With that in mind, take a look at this latest device from the minds of Sprint and Samsung. Called the “Instinct” this device looks like the best chance one has at unseating Apple. There’s an awful lot packed into this CDMA handset. There’s 3G technology, a 2-megapixel camera, access to the Sprint Music Store, stereo Bluetooth, audible caller ID, voice dialing and commands, a full HTML web browser, a digital music player, support for Sprint Radio and Sprint TV, phone as modem capability, Microsoft Live Search, and built-in GPS with Sprint navigation. Although there is no instant messaging client on board, the Instinct will display text conversations as full threads. You’ll also get multimedia messaging and access to personal/ corporate e-mail. Sprinkle in a 2GB memory card slot and a spare battery as well. Oh yeah, they also have a visual voice mail system, which up until now was only available on iPhones. Are cease and desist letters already being prepped?
In a departure from the traditional approach, Sprint took more initiative in helping to create the user interface. They’d like to make it as easy as possible to do all the nifty things you can on that phone. In case you didn’t know, they have a $99 rate plan that gives you unlimited access to everything they offer. Sprint is smart to partner up with a specific device maker, especially Samsung. Once this handset hits this summer, there ought to be tremendous buzz around it and we’re likely to see Sprint’s name in quite a few headlines. Priced at “under $300″, we expect to see tons of these running around by back-to-school time.
It’s going to take more than hardware and unlimited rate plans though. Apple has proven to be among the best marketing companies in the world. They’ve done a fantastic job at selling less hardware for more money for years.
Both companies are founding members of the Open Handset Alliance so we are hoping to see products like these running Android before too long.

If you are going to compete with Apple then you need to have services that apple doesn’t have, like picture messaging, and all the stuff it does have, like the SRS instant messaging. Also be able to make all the Itune songs we, the Iphone users, have on the iphone transferable to the instinct and you WILL dethrone the Iphone for sure. Believe me I will come over to Sprint and drop the worst network in the country, AT&T!!!!
There already is an iPhone killer: the Voyager.
Honestly, this just looks like a dumbed-down version of one. The Voyager has everything this has, a lot more, and looks a hell of a lot nicer.
But hey, Voyager is only for Verizon I guess.

Any time a phone company makes a phone, the competition is always going to make one just like it, but they will try to make it better….give credit when credit is due, this is a cool phone for SPRINT customers…so we won”t have to leave and go to at&t!! Why be mad about that!!
Do iPhone fanboys have nothing better to do then spread iPhone hype for Steve Jobs? I have a Mac Pro that I love and my contract is almost up with Sprint. Was thinking about an iPhone, but this Samsung phone looks more than capable at competing with the Jesus Phone. I think I might be sticking with Sprint… Plus At&t sucks where I live and looks to be overpriced compared to Sprint.
Companies always gone compete with one another. Thats just the way of the world. Although the iphone can do alot, theres also glitches with them also. Its not the perfect no problem phone you guys r making it to be. Yeah people switched but once they got it they wasnt happy and couldnt get out. The Plans really sucks, and features cost more. At least with sprint alot is included in ur plan with no hidden fees, or charges. Hate on them all u want. But sprint is real competition for AT&T. Plus i dont see alot of people with the ipone or like it compared to the people i see with the phones similiar to the iphone from sprint. HATERS!!!!!!!

There was a lot of blah, blah, blah about the iphone when it first came on the market. Bu,t with it came a lot of problems also. Everyone knows it’s human nature to jump on something now just because the Jones got it. The att plans suck. Sprint is a great company and has been around for a long time. They are even great enough to where they merged with a top notch carrier (Nextel) and kept their own name. How many names have att had? Check out the plans, Unlimited daytime minutes, along with unlimited text etc. Great phone, great plans and even great coverage. You make the decision because I sure have.
I have been a Sprint cutomer for well over 7 years and for the most part they have been great to me. Some phones I wish I didn’t have to deal with, but for the most part I have enjoyed their products. I think the Instinct is a great phone that is coming out, but I am more intrested in them creating one like Verizons Voyager. I enjoy having the full keyboard on my phone. It is time for me to get a new and I am thinking of leaving Sprint to join Verizon because of the Voyager. Sprint should take the Instinct capabilities and join it with the style of the Voyager and I think they would have created a dynamite product.

For someone who likes the I-phone and would love too own one ; but I am a sprint customer. They have provided me all the services I and my family need. I don’t plan to which services, but I like this iphone look-a-like and will buy one……….Don’t HATE!!!! thanks for chioces.
Unlike all the rich people that can afford an Iphone, this sounds great to me. It’s more in my price range and it sounds like it’s gonna be able to do much that the Iphone can do. I’m really excited about it. And sprint is my carrier and they get much better service in my area then AT&T. I can’t wait until it comes out.
We just need customizable phones. We can build our computers to our own specs. Why not our phones? : )

Sprint also has the HTC Diamond coming out in the fall. It is the successor to the Touch and looks damn sexy. Shortly after, a version of the Diamond with a keyboard (Mogul successor) code-named Raphael is due. Sprint is getting some damn nice hardware in ‘08.
Sprint rules!!!! not only with phones but with great services and plans. just compare the simply everything plan ($99.99) to other damn network’s plans and pricing. 1 great instinct samsung phone powered by 2 great networks - Sprint and Nextel. whoooooaaa! if you’re smart enough go to sprint and enjoy your life.
OK, for all of you iPhone nets…do ANY of you use corporate email??? The fix for this will come when??? iPhone is great for a lot of things, but even the simplist being email PUSHED to your phone from your corporate email server….wow…

All u haters I’m a Sprint customer, for over 7 years. I’m going to purchase the Instint phone in June as soon as it comes out. I’m not a hater of the IPhone. I spent well over $400.00 for my 16g IPod touch loving it. There is no way in hell I would have change from Sprint to AT&T. I love my plan and when I leave my family plan I am going to get their unliminted everything.. Did you here me UNLIMITED EVERYTHING… THANK YOU

Ive been a sprint customer for over 7 years. I was seriously thinking of swithcing to ATT or T-Mobile to get the iPhone not because I like or hate either of those providers. But with the Instinct I will stay with the sprint. The instinct may not be an iphone, but it give me the pleasure of what the iphone could have given me. The current debate between iPhone and Instinct is reminiscent of the one sometimes ago between Mercedes and Lexus. I do not care if it is iPhone or not, but if I can get the satisfaction i want from it, I will never own an iPhone and I will remain with Sprint until I can no longer afford they rates.
The instinct looks nice I’m with sprint and att I was mad as hell for apple keeping the iphone with one carrier for 5 years so now I have 2 carriers ,3 lines on sprint and 3 lines on att , My sprint bill is $65 for 3 lines with 2000 anytime minutes for all 3 lines one line with unlimited sprint pcs vision ,text and web Ya they really wanted to keep me .lol. and I’m rent them all out at $55 a line so don’t feel sorry for me .lol My att phones are $99 for 400 minutes for all 3 lines to share ,I’m paying 20 bucks for web on my Iphone that is too slow to even use and they will not let you even drop it .Att cost the most of any carrier as they did on land lines .That will not work much longer so we will all do better when sprint after years gets better.The iphone is just too cool so I had to go to att ,but after apple is free in 4 more years its good bye att. I can’t get service at home or work ,I don’t use my phone much for calls so that’s been ok .Its just a ipod to me that can sometimes make calls

Something that no one has mntioned on any site is that you will be able to have insurance on the Instinct. Something that is not availible on the iphone. Try replacing a iphone for $50 bucks!

The way i see it. The Instinct is a preety nice phone. It competes well with the iPhone. Keep in mind that Apple is coming out with a facelift for the iPhone and Apple isn’t stupid, there going to have what the Instinct has in a jiffy if not more. But Samsung really put their $#%^ together and created a phone that will stick in with the competition.

I have been with print for over 10 years love the service but the phones SUCK !!! My latest crappy phone the touch … well let me say this, the first one crap they replaced it got a new one yesterday, 2 hours later the software in the new phone crap they have to order me a new one!! three phones is less that 5 months?? This phone has major problems it will not tell me when there are messages will not ring at times !!! WOW and i was told that maybe there is a manufacturer defect in my phone??? I paid like 400 for this phone. I can not argure with the sprint network evdo rev a pretty quick and i like it !! but I own my own business if the phone does not ring when someone calls i just lost money if I do not get any messages I just lost money. I live in S California and the att coverage is VERY similar to Sprint so for me it may be wise to try the new iphone 3 g version and a new network??? Yep it will be more money i have 9 sprint phones pay 175 a month for 6000 minutes but hay att may be a little more for just my phone like 119 a month unlimited everything… but hopefully the damm phone rings !!!

I live and work in SoCal as well and have a touch phone with Sprint Service and I absolutely love the device. It works way better than the POS iPhone I used to have and the Sprint network is ten times more reliable than the No bars, no service AT&T network where I got more dropped calls and server errors than I could stand. The Rev a Sprint networks are faster and more reliable and I have good coverage in all the areas I roam. Also Sprint has made vast improvements in customer service and it is now a pleasure to deal with Sprint on any kind of issue. Also Sprint’s Simply Everything plan for $99 lets me do everything that sprint has to offer on their wireless networks. add that to the fact that I got my phone for $149 and you can keep your slow, expensive, nonfuctional AT&T networks with their poor customer servicerunning your overpriced iPhone. When The Instinct comes out In June I will be first in line to get one. With Apple you get an expensive logo running on a poor network. If you wan’t to continue to be suckered in by all the Madison avenue hype then be my guest. I’ll take real price and performance value everytime.
The iphone is the most OVER RATED PHONE. The samsung slide by verizon is better in looks and is more accurate with the slide out keyboard, like Sprint’s Htc Mogul. The Instinct really caught my eye because of its high Technolgy, by “simply” tilting the phone, you can scroll your internet screen up or down, just depends which way you tilt the phone. I would rather own either, the new slide with Verizon, or the iphone killer by Sprint’s Instinct. T.O
I started with nextel over 10 years ago, and my simply everthing plan is cheaper for me because of customer loyalty. i now have a Rumor, I’d like to see this instinct come with a full keyboard, they really rock. i do a lot of texting, and i love the bells and whistles of the iphone. voyager is not great enough for me to leave sprint.
There are so many things you can’t do with the iphone….the pinpointing GPS gets you within 5 miles…the instinct (as well as other GPS capable SPRINT phones) can get your exact locataion anytime and gets there faster

Ok…iPhone folks are complaining about the Insticnt, and many are comparing it to the Voyager. Is the Voyager cheaper than the iphone…the Instinct will be offering 2.0 MP camera and CAMCRDER, a 2 GB memory card, an extra battery, will allow SPRINTERS to access SPrint navigation, Sprint TV, high speed internet access, picture mail of course, stream texting. I mean there is nothing better than this

I live near SA, TX…I used to have AT&T service, both cell & home…it SUCKED so badly I vowed I would NEVER go back to AT&T, EVEN if it was the last phone service on Earth!!!! I have been with Sprint for over 5 years, love their service, and am SO thankful there’s finally an answer to the I-Phone!! Can’t wait to get the Instinct…I’ll be in line the first day it’s available!!!!!!!!!!! Better, cheaper…hmmm…what’s the issue??!!!!
My husband and I both were with Sprint for over 10years. He recently switched to T-Mobile and I purchased a Rumor. We are both originally from North Louisiana(Grambling) and he always has to call me from his parents’ home phone line because he can’t catch a signal. I think the Instinct may be just the thing to get him back to Sprint. He really wanted an IPhone but the price was a little unreasonable. I currently have the $99 Simply Everything Plan and I could not conceive of going to another company so that I could be over charged for the less features. His plan has some unlimited features but is not all inclusive and he doesn’t have the GPS Navigtion; which I have found to be outstanding. I will give it a month to debut and; if all reports are good and there are no major issues, I will give my white Rumor to one of my daughters and I will be Instinct bound. Way to go Sprint.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why buy a stupid iPhone for $400 when you can purchase something better (Samsung Instinct) with a better network (Sprint) and probably a better plan then the iPhone (Unlimited FTW!). Okay, the Instinct has better stuff, faster speeds, and everything the iPhone has. If you think this won’t even touch the iPhone, then I will call u an Apple Noob and tell you to **** off!! I dont want music player company and a F***ING HORRIBLE COMPUTER company to make my cell phone, no do i want it on a over-priced company. This 3G iPhone will probably be more expensive and not work right. In my opinion, it’s Apple gearing up and turning attension to them instead of this. When June 20th hits, we’ll see what Apple will do (Besides cowering under their desks calling Steve Jobs in desperation wondering how they will get by. I’m currently a Sprint user, and I’ve been through all the carriers as of current. I stuck with sprint for so long because i love it and its never failed me and its actually cheaper than Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Helio, and Sprint was the only one that i actually liked because of many facts from customer services to the capabilites of the phones i bought from them.I currently have an HTC Mogul from Sprint and its been through alot, and seeing this new phone come out, i really see a big potential. Nothing is ever perfect, and with the knowledge of Apple’s Iphone 2 on the horizon, i think that this will have a big chance against it. The Iphone, from many ppl, friends, and from a bunch of serveys say that the iphone is handy in many situations, but it doesnt totatly suit them in what they need. I mean, ya, i respect the Iphone grealy because it was one of the most renowned phones ever to come out. These people who had the phone liked it, but felt they needed more and was not satisfied.
With the iphone, it has many quirks, and it also proved to have quirks with its reflection without the phone, the Ipod touch. I own an ipod Touch, and it has practically the same glitchs and bad sides as the iphone, except the iphone had alot more than i expected when i reviewed and tested it out myself. There’s alot of lag time after start up as well as being inconsistent. Im not going to name all the faults that the Iphone has, but still giving alot of respect to the iphone.
The instict, to sum it all up, can par up to the iphone, or even overcome the iphone, but once the iphone 2 comes out is when the true rivalry will begin. I just hope that Samsung and Sprint will listen to those who have the iphones and listen well to their suggestions from having an iphone.

I also will be getting this phone. When the 3g iphone comes out it will still be on ATT which doesn’t have much 3g coverage. Sprint covers basically all of it’s service area with 3g, while ATT is stuck on edge.
Considering Sprint gives you a lot more for your money phone plan wise, I think people actually WILL transfer to Sprint. They also offer military discounts, and have pretty decent phones as well. With this puppy coming out though (which I’ve seen beat iPhone in multiple connection and ability tests), there will no doubt be people switching to Sprint for a cool phone. It makes it fair, with Sprint having a cool and similar phone. People don’t have to switch to AT & T anymore (an expensive, and not nearly as reliable service as I have witnessed).
I believe it will diffidently level the playing field. One of the reason’s is due to Apple’s attitude. I like Apple, I own a Mac. But I did not like the idea of being forced to sign a contract with a different carrier than the one I was already with. Which is Sprint. I have been with Sprint for about 10(?) years now. And I have no intention of having to go back to the end of the line with a new carrier just to make Apple/Mac happy. All phone companies have their problems. And I have dealt with AT&T in the past, so I know they have ‘issues’ too. I will be looking forward to my new Samsung Instinct later this month and still a Sprint customer!

The only phone that beats the iPhone is the iPhone 3G which will be available starting July 11th, 2008 worldwide. The new iPhone 3G features GPS, the new App Store, Microsoft Exchange support, Multi-Touch, and a lot of others features that will blow your mind away.

One other thing, the new iPhone 3G will sell at a base price of $199 for the 8GB…
So I want a new phone because while I’m with sprint, I have nextel, and I think it sucks, at least in my area, but I’m going off to a new area for college. So I was planning to switch to att and get the pantech duo, not an iPhone, because I’ve heard the problems, even though there is a lot of good. But what I really like is the way the pantech duo slides two ways. But this INSTINCT has caught my eye and I may not have to switch companies anyways, especially if sprint gets great signal in the city where I’m going. I would love to have this phone and it is much cheaper than the iPhone is even now, and most definitely than when the iPhone debuted. That price was absolutely ridiculous and it is still too pricy. I have also heard about a lot of glitches with this INSTINCT though. We will see how it goes in the summer, and what everyone thinks of it and then I will slowly make my decision, no rash choices for me.

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEE the new phone by Sprint–THE INSTINCT–which is coming out soon!!!!! I had a chance to test it out at work and it is beyond ridiculous!!! It is sooo user friendly that grandma can get this phone and not be a techy to be able to use her phone. Coupled up with the simply everything plan (everthing unlimited) you cant lose. I have a Blackberry Curve 8310 and my service is with AT&T for the next 2 years. I was not real happy with my service provider but loved the phone. Not very friendly if you are not a little bit tech saavy (Blackberry). With this Instinct coming out my friends and I have been coming up with all kinds of scenarios so I can get out of this contract; had one friend said I should fake my own death because AT&T does not require that you provide proof! LMAO!!!!!! i WILL NOT GO THAT ROUTE MY FRIENDS, I DO HAVE MORALS. But I will be leaving AT&T for Sprint for this phone, even if the instinct wasn’t coming out I was leaving anyways because Sprint’s service is way better, was with Sprint a long time ago. Just got with AT&T because my mom said she would pay the bill. NOW WE ARE ALL MOVING TO SPRINT; THE WHOLE FAMILY!!!! YEAH US!!!!!!!!!
About the Voyager as competitor to the Instinct, well I guess you haven’t seen the two phones side by side. Some of us care about size, and in a phone small and slim is better. The Voyager is so large, clunky, and inelegant, how could it ever compete with the iPhone or the Instinct? Besides, Verizon screws up the user interface on every phone it gets hold of! …Regarding the iPhone-Instinct debate, if you can get over the Apple marketing hype, (some lesser products from Apple have won by marketing hype alone) the Instinct might have everything you want without being tied to Apple. HTC and LG plan to release some very cool phones in the 2nd half of 2008 as well. I’m awaiting the CDMA version of the HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Diamond Pro. These phones have an incredible 3D touch screen interface, and they’re packed with features. They’re compatible with MS Office, and you can connect the Pro model to a projector for giving presentations. LG has some very interesting phones in the pipeline as well. The more competition, the better for us! Thanks to Apple, Samsung, HTC, and LG for some very cool phones soon to be available to US consumers (finally).

For all the hype on how bad AT&T’s customer service is and the fuss over insurance, try getting a Sprint phone replaced. I’ve been told by numerous reps it was better if I just bought a new phone, I am eligible for hte upgrade. I keep explaining I am going to buy a new phone either the Instinct or the iPhone 3g. Well 2 weeks of that fun and no phone later I’ll be getting an iPhone 3g. And yes for all that are wondering I’ve been sinking my money into the pit that is “Total Care” for 4 years, phone insurance from Sprint is no longer a selling point. Last point, the Instinct needs to be quite a bit less than the iPhone they are not in the same catagory. The Instinct is a feature phone, cool as it may be, it is not a smart phone (ie. Palm, WM6.1, OS X iPhone.) Also, to all wireless carriers, Why is tethering so difficult? I love going to a sprint store and hearing “Oh, Simply Everything, except that.” kind of defeats the purpose of callling it a simply everything plan doesn’t it.
I am counting the days untill the instinct comes out! the iphone even the 3g iphone dosent stand a chance. the voyager is also a great phone and verizon is a great sevice but thankyou samsung and sprint cause iam getting the instinct!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah i like that new phone instinct im so amaze about wat i cant do on my new phone fuck sory to say that ways but fuck tha iphone…i saw so many stuped jackasses doing line for wat ..so that could be on tha news fuck that we could do much better wit our phone that the iphone….o Sprint keep bringing us tha best and we will be there….love it now i could send and recive picture of my lil princes….we could stay in touch better with video masseging…..so, iphone your are history samsumg and sprint keep up tha good work..also check my video on youtube.com/mefoo213
