Microsoft is Not Above Adobe

Microsoft told us today that they are not nearly as picky as Apple when it comes to the viewing Flash on handsets. That’s right, big, bad Microsoft licensed some software that will do everything their own Silverlight plans to do by hooking up with Adobe for Flash Lite and Adobe Reader LE.

How it should work is fairly simple; They’ll pretty much make Flash Lite a plug-in for Pocket Internet Explorer. Adobe says that up to 80% of Flash from websites will play using this viewer but we have no way of knowing whether or not it’s true. Do you have time to do the fact checking? We don’t.

We know that Steve Job (Apple) recently took a pass on Flash Lite as he said it does not offer enough to be warranted a coveted slot in their iPhone by saying it’s simply not good enough for them. We feel it necessary to point out to the turtle-necked one that the ability to view 80% is better than 0% any day of the week. Loosen the tight grip on your customers a bit and at least offer it as a 3rd party option.

So when can we expect Flash Lite or Adobe Reader LE plug-ins? Before Windows Mobile 7 is specific as Microsoft will get right now. Translation: Sometime in the next year or so.
